An App Inspired by My Daughter

November 16th, 2018

My daughter helped me come up with a neat idea for an app. I saw her coloring in a coloring book, and she ran out of pictures to color. She goes through a lot of these books, and I thought it would be cool if she could just have an endless book full of pictures to color in, which made me think it would be great for an app to have this. I searched around for a team that could do mobile application development in Singapore, and told them what I wanted to have in the app.

I knew that there were a lot of art and drawing apps already available on the app store, so if I wanted people to pay attention to my app, it had to be something special than what was already available. There was one thing that these apps lacked, and that was the ability to color onto three dimensional shapes. With 3D models in the app, someone like my daughter would not only be able to color around the traditional edges of an image, but around an entire 3D surface. To add to this, being able to create your own 3D images was an even better idea, so I requested that the team add in that functionality.

I wanted the first person to test my app out to be my daughter. If she didn’t like it, then I wouldn’t have much hope for all of the other kids that would be using it. I let her spend a couple of hours with it and asked her to try out all of the features that it has. She fell in love with it and really liked creating all kinds of weird shapes and animals in the 3D model creator. She made a six legged animal that has wings and two heads that was purple and yellow.
